30th May 1916.
S.W.
sir,
With reference to your letter No. 22804/1916
of the 23rd instant, I am directed by Secretary Sir
E. Grey to enclose copy of an enquiry from Messrs.
Boustead & Co., relating to the payment of dividends
to certain enemy subjects in Hongkong and Japan.
Messrs. Boustead & Co., have been informed that as
Mr. F.W. Retz is on the Statutory List for Japan, it
is not permissible to remit any sum on account of
dividends to him during the present war, and that,
as regards the German shareholders in Hongkong, their enquiry has been referred to the Colonial Office for
a reply.
I am,
sir,
Your most obedient,
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
humble Servant,
Walter Townley
in the controller.
